unimpressed kitty is unimpressed

so awhile ago i cleaned out my closet. i had a bag of unwanted clothing sitting on my floor ever since. i didn't really do a thorough job, so i've had it in my head that i'd do another sweep. no sense taking a half full bag to the thrift store...

then i started thinking. most of the clothes are obviously worn... the material is fine, just not so much for wearing.
i could cut them up and make something else! a rug seemed to be the easiest. i found a video tutorial that required no sewing (phew!) and set to work.

as you can see, it didn't really turn out... it's more of a hat.. i think i'm making the knots too tight.

in my search, i found a BUNCH of tutorials for other things. i really want to try them! maybe i can get good enough to sell them...?



also: anyone who's not canadian and watched the closing ceremonies for the olympics: I'M SORRY! that is not an accurate sampling of my country. please don't hold the poor judgment of a few against the rest of us.. i beg you.

Dog Day

Woo, saw Dog Day last night. The ended with a wicked cover of Nirvana's "Drain You" which was absolutely amazing. I've only been home for about 3 hours since Friday morning so I am exhauuuusted. Going to bed.

PS. this technically counts since they didn't hit the stage until about 1:30am.

I'm in New Brunswick for the weekend, and I'm about to head off to bed, after a great day, which included some curling!

town meeting by moonlight

the crows used to live in victoria park. for as long as i can remember, they'd come out of the woodwork at sunset, flying towards the park.
but the residents around the park started to complain, and i can't really say i blame them. their cars, yards, sidewalks would be covered in bird crap. it's pretty gross.
so, instead of actually dealing with the problem efficiently, the city installed noise makers and simply  displaced them as a whole. the crows have simply moved north.
to my neighborhood.
i can definitely sympathize with the people who live around victoria park, and i don't blame them for being frustrated or for wanting something done. the crows were affecting their quality of life.
i just feel that the attempt the city made was poorly chosen. the problem is simply being moved, not fixed.

also, it's incredibly eerie to stand under a tree that has a murder of crows flying among its branches...

wednesday night

I know it's late but I just got home, I went to my friend's place to watch the hockey game wednesday night after work, crashed on his couch, woke up at like 8am and got home with just enough time to do laundry & then head back to work. So tired.

Upper Prince St

Walking to trivia tonight (where we placed second!), I took some shots.

Upper Prince is I believe a pretty old street of Charlottetown. All the houses are big and old, and it's close to downtown. This was just in front of the elementary school.

blogger seems to be acting weird in opera. i can't use the "edit html" tab, i have to use the "compose" tab. i really need to give google chrome a try.
yes, i know, there's firefox. it crashes constantly, though.

anyway. i dug out the close-up filters tonight. it's been awhile since i've used them with any regularity. the depth of field is insane! which can be fun, or can be annoying...
i should have have a white card to make the left side a bit brighter.

formosa tea house used to give out scented tulips. it's a nice scent, although i'm glad it's wearing off. i've had a migraine all day. every single sound, glimmer of light, scent was torture.
my uncle was shoveling outside and it sort of felt like ice picks in my brain.
naturally, this meant the phone rang off the hook and people kept ringing the doorbell.

sorry. unless you are screaming bloody murder, i'm not moving.

MOO!

a few weeks ago i ordered business cards with MOO. they are partnered with flickr. i got them in the mail yesterday and I AM IMPRESSED! it makes me excited to give them to people! i think i have about 15 to 20 different cards that make up a pack of 100.

i got a trial pack of the MOO green cards before ordering these. they were 13pt, and 100% recycled.
they didn't do well with printing the photos, but the text on the back was nice and crisp. i highly recommend the MOO green if you have mostly text!

for my actual business cards i went with the MOO classic. it's thicker, 16pt. printed on sustainably sourced paper with a matte laminate. the back is slightly wishy, but when you look at the amazing quality of the front it really doesn't matter!!

Today was good

I spent the first half of today walking around the city taking photos, and I think I got a quite few good ones. After photos, I went to Carla's (@girlchasingbats on twitter) and she sewed a new patch into my bag. Then her, her friend and I met Charlene (@cr8tiveCandy) at Gus' for food and we went and saw art at FRED. :D

This might not be the best one but I like that it's colorful.



I was really happy with today overall.

i went to baba's tonight to see story & the rough sea. it was quite enjoyable!

Bus Story

I'm sorry about missing a day the other day. It just kind of happened.

I'm really excited about what I did today. It's not something I usually do and it's actually a little scary to me if that makes sense.

It's a polyptych that I think might tell a little story.

Stir Fry Action

I tried to get a shot of me stirring the stir fry. Not a bad attempt I think. It was actually harder than I thought it would be though.

The main issue was that this is time sensitive, I can't spend the time I want to get the shot or the food would be ruined! (It turned out quite well by the way. :) )

mid afternoon snack, er, beer..

i ran into pete murphy today. we went to the al!bi for wednesday afternoon beers. i may or may not have been incredibly buzzed by the time we left.

pete is pretty awesome and incredibly talented. he's a film maker, and everything i've seen by him has been brilliant. he just released a movie, and is already working on the next one.

Not a bad way to spend an evening when you're a geek like me.

I'm working on video I shot of 3 great bands, Nudie and the Turks, Jordan Cameron, and The Death Avengers (they need an R3 profile soon, their EP release is on the 20th of February!).

i was losing daylight quickly. just barely enough to handhold this if i fiddled with the settings.

in the summer our backyard houses half the cities birds, i'm convinced.

Big Cat loves birds. it's going to be amusing to watch him go nuts from the patio door.

All The Answers

Trivia on Tuesdays at Churchill Arms has become a great tradition, and a new one to me.

We talked during trivia today about how it's pretty unique to UK pubs, Boston, and PEI apparently. That's pretty cool, I find it very enjoyable, even if I know only about 10% of the answers. Luckily I seem to have found myself part of the dream team, and we've gotten first place a lot.

This evening we ended up tied for first, and lost it on a question on how much the fine is for texting and driving in BC. $167.
